What is Dry Brushing?

Dry brushing is a method of gentle exfoliation to the skin with a special bristled brush. It can be used to help restore firmness and increase blood flow. Dry Brushing can also stimulate the lymphatic system which plays a major role in helping our bodies fight off infection and inflammation.

How to Dry Brush?

You may want to dry brush in the morning as the experience can be invigorating and promote increased energy. It can be done before or after a shower, or it can be done without showering as there is no messy exfoliating process making it easy to incorporate into a routine. Speaking of routine, it’s important to note that dry brushing should only be done one or two times a week. If you have sensitive skin you may only want to do it once every couple of weeks. Also, people with eczema, psoriasis, or skin rashes and irritations should probably avoid dry brushing.

What type of dry brush to use?

7 Easy Steps

  • Starting at the bottom of the feet, work up in long smooth strokes

  • Brush the midsection in a circular motion, try to avoid overlapping circles

  • Start at the palms of the hands, long smooth strokes up towards the armpits

  • Work towards the chest or heart

  • Use lighter pressure and move to heavier pressure with tolerance

  • Take a shower if you choose, not too hot

  • Coat the skin with a rich lotion or body oil after brushing to reveal nourished glowy skin
